The endocrine system is involved in the response of the body to physical and psychological stress. The hormonal effects of stress can affect glucose metabolism, energy production, the cardiovascular system, and other metabolic processes.
This presentation will focus on the relationship between the physiology of stress and endocrine system function. Presentations may cover topics related to the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, the control of cortisol, the sympathetic nervous system, hormonal signaling induced by stress, the process of gluconeogenesis, insulin resistance, energy metabolism, and physiological adaptation. Research could consider the differences between responses to acute and prolonged stress and the effects of repeated or continuous physiological challenges on endocrine and metabolic function.
The Diabetes and Endocrinology World Congress will serve as an interdisciplinary venue for the meeting of endocrinologists, physiologists, neuroscientists, psychologists, metabolic scientists, and clinicians.
