3rd Edition of Diabetes and Endocrinology World Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - DEWC 2027

Diabetes-Related Retinopathy and Vision Preservation

Diabetic retinopathy still continues to be one of the major complications in patients with metabolic abnormalities, and it can cause serious vision impairment if not timely diagnosed and treated.

The Diabetes and Endocrinology World Conference will serve as a venue for considering current advances in the knowledge of biological changes in the retina in diabetes mellitus and ways to enhance early detection and preservation of vision in patients. In particular, the session will discuss issues related to retinal microvascular dysfunction, inflammation, oxidative stress, vascular leakage, neurodegeneration in the retina and other biological aspects of the development of diabetic retinopathy. Other topics that may be covered by this session will be retinal photography, optical coherence tomography, artificial intelligence-based image analysis, screening programmes, biomarkers, stratification of risks and ways to assess the progress of the condition.

The session will focus on the cooperation of diabetologists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, primary healthcare practitioners, imaging specialists, researchers and public health specialists. The discussions will consider ways to increase the number of screened patients, referral processes, treatment availability, patient education and continuity of care. Participants will learn about ways to reduce vision impairment in people with diabetes mellitus at the Diabetes and Endocrinology World Conference.
