Health of the auditory system has recently become the topic of interest among researchers in the field of diabetes. It has been explored how there may be links between metabolism, microvasculature, nervous system functioning and hearing in the diabetic population.
In this session we will discuss what is currently known about the relationship between diabetes and the health of the auditory system and where further research needs to take place. Such topics as functioning of the cochlea, auditory nerves, microvascular changes, oxidative stress, metabolism, hearing testing and audiological screening, as well as relationships between glycemic control and hearing can be discussed by the speakers of this session.
This session will promote cooperation between diabetologists, endocrinologists, audiologists, otolaryngologists, neurologists and researchers involved in clinical research. During the Diabetes and Endocrinology World Conference issues related to screening, research methodology, early detection and coordinated healthcare for patients with diabetes and hearing problems will be discussed.
